YOU HERD WHAT?

We have so many sheep here on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands and I realized I had never painted any.  This was a little scruffy bunch that I thought would be fun to do.

Living on the West Coast we don't get much snow but I remember it well :)  I was given this refernce photo to paint and I really enjoyed doing the birch trees.  The bare branches were more of a challenge and not sure they look quite right.  I painted some of them negatively and some I used misket.  I never like misket because they leave such a hard line.  Just today's exercise :)

This painting was taken from a photo I took in Italy.  This town is called Sutri.  I really enjoyed my time in this region which is 1 hour north of Rome.  I did the trees in the foreground in a negative manner.

This cottage caught my eye because of the light filtering through the fence.  It was a hot day and the sunshine was very bright. Cottages are a favourite of mine to paint as they always have a story to tell.   This one is in Niagara on the Lake, in Ontario. 

The fuschias are coming to end in the garden. These beautiful white ones were called "Sleigh Bells"..I guess that could mean Christmas is coming :)

These Peace Roses were so lovely with the light shining through.

This painting is from a photo I took in Italy a few years ago. I think I might do it again and leave the vase empty. I think the flowers distract you from the door.

In this painting I tried to make it as busy as the poppies were in the garden. A riot of colour!

My garden has lots of sweetpeas this year and so I sat amongst them and did this painting today.

I am trying my hand at portraits and this is my granddaughter all dressed to go out and found a mud puddle :)

I find my wrist is still stiff and sore but I thought I had better get some painting done...I tried to loosen up these lilies with a light transparent wash.
