Merry Christmas to All
This magical time of year is a time to remember friends and family and wish our neighbours good cheer.
Remembering Christmas' past is always a pleasure..I immediately go to my Grandparent's farm when I was about 7 or 8.
All of the aunts, uncles and cousins spent the weekend and my Grandmother always produced an amazing meal from the blazing wood stove. The teatowels were hung behind stove to dry and looked beautiful to my eyes. The old stove had a water resevoir built in for instant hot water. With all of these "conveniences" how my grandmother cooked wonderful pies, tarts and that huge turkey perfectly still confounds me. She would stick in a piece of brown paper and when it browned she seemed to know it was ready.
There seemed to be an unending pile of wood to feed this beast and that was Grandpa's job.
The living room was heated by a much more elegant stove and it churned out heat to warm this room that was rarely used. This is where we gathered around the tree and my mother played the piano. My Grandfather had a wonderful baritone voice and enjoyed singing the Christmas songs.
There was always ample snow to use the horse and cutter and we ususally all had a ride sometime during the weekend.
May your holiday be full of love and happy memories too!
