Pouring Watercolours

If you haven't tried pouring give it a try. It is loose and gives a totally different look to your work. Choose some colours that will blend nicely and don't choose more than three colours. Wet your paper leaving some white dry places which will give you a spot to highlight your subject. The small pouring cups that come in detergent are perfect for pouring. Mix your paint to the consistency of cream. Of course this is best done over a basin or something to catch the excess. As you pour overlap some of the areas to give depth. To give interesting edges you can "blow" some of the paint around. Once your pour is dry hold it up and see what it suggests. Find a flower, bird, whatever comes to mind and do a little darker shade around it. In my painting I immediately saw a hummingbird and only had to paint very little to make it come alive. I saw that I had quite a large white area and decided to turn it into a flower - hydrangea in my case. I get alot of comments on this piece. Give it a try.

  3. Thank you. It is a different approach and can be added to a watercolour that didn't quite work.
