Let's Dance

White flowers are always fun to paint... leaving the white of the paper for the whitest whites and the shadows in a light mauve/grey.  I did the background loose in the same tones as the shadows but much darker.  I hope you like it.

ARTSEA WEEK IN SIDNEY

Artists will be stationed at different stores during the ArtSea Week celebrations.  I will be at the library Monday at 2 p.m.. Drop by if you live in the area.

ARTISANS SHOW

52 local artists have been juried into the latest Artisan Show and Sale at Tulista Art Centre here in Sidney BC.  It will be running from Sept. 27 til Dec. 23rd from l0 to 4 Tuesday to Sunday.

I have some of my paintings, calendars and cards included in the fabulous array of handmade gift items.  Everything is priced reasonably and made with love.

If you live nearby it is definitely worth your time to take a look!

Music maker

This is a small watercolor done on Arches 300 lb. paper.  It makes me imagine all sorts of r easons why he is alone in the doorway playing.

FANCY FUSCHIAS

When I do floral pieces I love to do a little negative painting as well. Most of the leaves are done negatively as well as the flowers below the realistic blooms.

ANCIENT IMAGES

I have always had a fascination with anything Egyptian. I found these images and wanted to create a collage that would highlight the gold and copper undertones.

Geraniums are such a thankful plant in the garden. It doesn't seem to attract bugs and blooms and blooms.

COLLAGE EN FRANCAIS

Collages are always fun to do.  An old picture of a model, old French papers and rice papers make a great combination.  Add a little gold stamping and you are done!

EVENING ON THE BEACH

I have painted many scenes from the Tofino area on our West Coast.  It typifies the scenery all around me and I never tire of it.

LITTLE QUALICUM FALLS

This is a  10x14 watercolour on 300 lb Arches Paper.  I find my work looks so much better when I use the 300 lb., I know it is a little bit more expensive but once you feel confident with yourself try a sheet, I am sure you will love it.

My husband and I were avid campers and fortunately we have gorgeous parks here in British Columbia.  Little Qualicum Falls is one of our favourite spots to relax.

I tried to capture the peaceful atmosphere but with the water rushing through the gorge.

BEACH COMBING

Beach combing at Crystal Cove.  I don't usually put people in my paintings because I never seem to make them look realistic.. however, here they are :)

Another angle of Crystal Cove...the waves and wind create a misty vapour over the waves which is really interesting.  Hopefully I have captured that feeling.

PEACHY POPPIES

Poppies are in bloom everywhere at the moment... I saw these peachy ones.  Trying to capture the translucency is always a challenge and I hope I have succeeded in a small way.   I used blue and purple as a background colour as that is the complimentary colour for peach/orange.

RHODOS

This bunch of rhodos were hanging over my back fence .. just waiting to be painted.  I tried to keep the petals translucent as possible.  The darks were created with magenta, fub blue, and green.

COLLAGING

This particular collage was not done with rice papers...I took an old watercolour that didn't really turn out and I laid layers of acrylic paints over it, stamped into the wet paint.  Let it dry and then layered more colours leaving the lights from the painting underneath.  I did another one and I think both of them are interesting. A good thing to do with those paintings stashed away.
